Rodent Control

Without ProActive measures in place, rodents can be troublesome and very dangerous pests in residential homes and commercial businesses. They are known carriers of the Hantavirus that causes Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome and is extremely harmful to human health. They are also known to chew holes through walls and destroy wires as well which can cause an electrical fire.

ProActive measures are needed to be taken very serious to ensure that areas do not become host to rodent populations. The use of rodent proofing materials on entryways such as door sweeps along the bottom of entry doors is one way. Foam insulation around pipes and exterior rodent bait stations are another way to ensure that rodents can’t enter. Regardless of size, all holes should be sealed to keep rodents out. Keeping weeds and grass mowed and removing clutter from the yard is another way to make the property less attractive to rodents.

Defensive packaging of food will also help in this ongoing battle. Food containers made of stainless steel, or heavy plastic with lids are better than paper boxes and plastic bags.

Boxes and items stored in garages, attics or crawlspaces are ideal nesting sites for rodents. From time to time these items should be examined for rodent activity. Try to keep these areas tidy so that activity will be easier to spot.

Removing rodents from an infested area oftentimes proves to be very difficult. Most treatment methods involve traps. Professional pest control is necessary to treat an existing rodent infestation.
